Bird in the Hand produces top quality textiles for interiors and a range of linen homeware products.
In 2008, I set up Bird in the Hand, re-issuing original Jamaican prints from the 1960s and 70s. These screenprinted fabrics, originally made by Textiles of Jamaica, were used in homes across Jamaica and sold in the department stores of New York. After a factory fire in the late 1980s, the company was faced with financial difficulties and forced to close.
I am an artist born in Jamaica and living in London, I grew up surrounded by these fabrics and have pieced their story together, gathering the original prints from around the world, redrawing and updating them.
I am now very excited to be screenprinting them in London on the finest linen and union cloth.
