About Bird In The Hand
Laura Hamilton set up Bird in the Hand in 2008, beginning with the TROPICAL collection. Laura re-issued Jamaican textiles from the 60s and 70s which she had grown up around. She gathered original fabrics from friends and family across the world, then pieced them together, redrawing and updating them into bold and vibrant interior fabrics. The LAURA collection followed shortly after, where she turned her abstract and landscape paintings into single colour coordinating designs.
Bird in the Hand has recently relocated from East London to a farm in the Scottish Borders. Working from a converted barn, Laura has been able to revisit her love for painting and expand her ceramic practice, whilst overlooking the expansive landscape. Laura has made pots since the age of 10. She returned to this practice in 2017 after a 15-year hiatus, which was the introduction of the CERAMICS collection.
Alongside the Hand-printed Linen, all designs can be digitally printed onto Performance Fabric. These are durable, water and stain resistant fabrics treated for outdoor use.
The HOMEWARE range, an exclusive selection of linen products for the kitchen and living room, can be viewed in the ONLINE SHOP.
